
Mary Rose Scanlon is a violist and violinist from New Mexico, USA, raised in Italy and trained at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome. During her studies, she performed frequently as a soloist and completed her laurea with a focus on blending classical and jazz styles, arranging works by Claude Bolling and adapting Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess for the stage.
Her interest in traditional music led her to Mexico City, where she explored genres such as huasteco, huapango, son jarocho, and Mexican Baroque in collaboration with Samuel Chavira and Maestro Manuel Mejía.
Mary Rose is the second violinist of Salut Salon, the internationally acclaimed quartet based in Hamburg, known for its virtuosic and theatrical approach to classical music. She is also co-founder and co-director of the Mexiterranean Ensamble, a project that bridges Mexican and Mediterranean musical traditions through performance and research.
